Our group seeks to further our understanding of the physical processes that drive large-scale circulations in the atmosphere, with a particular focus on the tropics. Our research combines the three pillars of science: observations, modeling and theory, to obtain a complete picture of the processes that drive the winds of our atmosphere and the distribution of rainfall. We are comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and the principal investigator. Our group collaborates with scientists from around the globe and have ongoing efforts to communicate science to the public.
Topics we have researched include tropical convection, tropical waves, monsoon depressions, El Niño, the Madden-Julian Oscillation, tropical-extratropical teleconnections, and tropical cyclones.
We are also involved in outreach activities and efforts to communicate science to the public. Ángel also lectures at the university level. The courses he teaches covers a range of topics from small-scale cloud processes to the planetary-scale winds. See the buttons above to learn more about outreach and teaching.
We also have an podcast in Spanish called “Tiempo, Clima y Tierra” focused educating the public on topics on weather and climate
